Alternate Legal Costs

Melanie Wyatt Family Law offers an alternate legal cost compared to traditional law firms which charge for every six minutes of work completed on a client’s file. We want to ensure that client’s will contact us with an update on their matter, further instructions or respond to our emails without the fear of incurring further legal costs or wishing to get off the telephone as it will cost them for an additional “six minutes” of legal costs. 

We offer alternate fixed fees for clients seeking transparency with their legal costs and ensure they do not suffer from “bill shock” at the conclusion of their matter. We will ascertain from your first appointment what assistance you require and explain the process. We will provide you with interim fixed fee costs agreements during each stage of your matter. 

We are on the panel as a private law firm with Victoria Legal Aid, so we can assist client’s that are eligible for a grant of Legal Aid. We will determine if a client is eligible by considering the various guidelines of Victoria Legal Aid. 

We will require a client wishing to apply for legal aid to complete an Application form and provide supporting documents as required by Victoria Legal Aid. There are times when Victoria Legal Aid will still require a financial contribution from a client which is paid directly to them.
